David Villa poor Run continues

David Villa was unable to prevent New York City FC from suffering a 3-2 defeat in their latest MLS game.

The club has been suffering from a very poor run in the last five games and this only worsened following this loss against Columbus Crew. The last victory for New York City FC in the league came in the start of March when they managed to come out on the positive side of a rollercoaster ride with Chicago Fire. Since then, they have been winless in the league and this is starting to affect their league position.

The latest defeat has seen them drop out of the play-off places in the Eastern conference table. The only consolation is that New York City are not too far behind clubs like DC United and Orlando City, who are in the top six. Despite possessing top professionals like Frank Lampard and Villa, the struggles faced by New York City is surprising. The club are just hoping that the availability of Lampard, who has not played this season, will improve matters especially in the midfield. Much was expected from Villa and he has been delivering with four goals in seven appearances.

The club, though, will want to see even more from the former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid striker. For the time being, New York City FC fans will not be too worried about the club’s underperforming results. They are witnessing arch rivals New York Red Bulls also experiencing a similar downturn in form. Meanwhile, striker Didier Drogba secured his first goal of the season in the win over Chicago Fire. Montréal Impact managed to come back from being a goal down to get three points in this game. The next match is also away from home for New York City FC and the club take on Philadelphia Union.
