David Villa’s international career is over

Some might believe that David Villa’s international career is over, but, the veteran himself has other ideas.

He is looking to return to the International circuit and complete his hundred international appearances.

He is three away from that mark at the moment.

After World Cup in Brazil, Villa had admitted that his decision to join the American club New York City FC might put a full stop on his international career, but, he had said he would always be available for selection and would like to come back and play in the Spain jersey whenever he gets a call up from the team management.

And, after showing great form in the Major League Soccer season 2015, he finds himself back in the news again. The Spanish media is backing the striker for a comeback and he himself is looking forward to it as well.

According to Villa, he would be glad if he has the opportunity to have another crack, but, it might be tough as Spain has got some wonderful emerging talents in the striking department at the moment.

During a promotional programme in Gijon the other night, the 34-year old was quoted as saying, “It’s not in my hands you know. Some exciting young players have come through the system and they have done well. The manager has to make the call as always. I’m not too far away from hundred matches. It would be great to be able to get to that milestone.”

Villa, who has netted more number of times than anyone else for his country Spain, proved to be immensely effective for New York City FC in the previous MLS.

It was his debut season over there and he stole the limelight with some key performances.
