Atletico Madrid skipper Gabi has hailed the club’s capture of Spain international striker David Villa from Barcelona for a measly € 5.1 million to fill in the void left by Radamel Falcao who left the capital giants for a big money move to French club AS Monaco this summer. The midfielder has claimed the signing of the player by the club this summer only goes to show that it means business following its return to the UEFA Champions League after a prolonged gap.

Last season was a pretty hard one for Aston Villa and their new manager Paul Lambert, as the young team he put faith in found itself embroiled in the relegation struggle for much of the season – so you would have to put bets on next season being exactly the same, right?

Well not necessarily, as these young players will now be a year older and better for that fraught experience, and Lambert is a proven quality manager. Villa’s next competitive game however is a tough trip to Arsenal on the opening day of the new season, and the bookies don’t fancy their chances.

The Barcelona striker David Villa has said that he does not expect to hit top form immediately after his return to the first-team. The former has a striker was injured for the last eight months after breaking his tibia in the Club World Cup match in December.

As a result of the injury, he had to miss a number of crucial matches and tournaments including the Euro 2012. The 30-year-old striker, however, has recovered sufficiently in order to be part of the Barcelona first-team in the opening few matches of the season.
