BIG PLAYER

David Villa was the big signing for Atletico Madrid in the summer and he came to the club in order to replace Radamel Falcao, who had two extremely successful years at the club.

The forward was sold to Monaco for £ 50 million, but Madrid spent only a fraction of the money in order to bring Villa from Barcelona. Due to the contractual situation of the Spaniard, he was brought to the club for around £ 4 million. Even though he has played less football since his move, he has already found the back of the net on three occasions.

The arrival of Villa has been overshadowed by the impressive form of Diego Costa, who is the top scorer in the division. However, the Brazilian will not be available for the upcoming Champions league match against Porto. Villa is expected to start in his absence, and manager Diego Simeone has praised the Spaniard by saying that he is one of the best in the world. According to Simeone, Atletico Madrid are extremely lucky to have someone like Villa, who has the experience of winning trophies at club and international level.

The 31-year-old is the all-time top scorer for the Spanish national team, while he has lifted numerous trophies while playing for clubs like Valencia and Barcelona.

“He’s a top player. He’s probably the player who’s most used to winning in our squad. He’s very important for us; he takes up great positions, is good with the ball and most importantly, scores goals. What surprises me is the work he puts in for the whole group; that’s something I like a lot and which is good for everyone,” said Simeone. Atletico Madrid have made a great start to the league campaign after managing to win all the opening seven matches to go top of the table along with Barcelona.
