CITY DEFEAT RED BULLS IN MLS

Former Barcelona forward David Villa contributed a goal as New York City stunned the Red Bulls in a 2-0 defeat. The much anticipated Major League Soccer derby in the Eastern Conference lived up to its excitement as the stunning result means City have broken their poor run against the Red Bulls.

Both teams have met four times with Red Bulls winning every game. Their eight-matches winning streak was broken recently by Philadelphia Union and New York City compounded their worries.

Jack Harrison gave City the first goal in the eight minute and David Villa doubled the advantage halfway into the second half of the game. The game couldn’t get worse for the Bulls as Chris Duvall was sent off eleven minutes from stoppage time. The results means City are a point clear of Philadelphia Union who fell to a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Houston dynamo. Dynamo forced the victory with a late minute goal from substitute Cristian Maidana, forcing Union to go home without taking any points. Philadelphia Union player Josh Yaro had missed a close chance just few minutes away from the winning goal from Maidana.

On the other hand, Sporting Kansas City defeated Columbus Crew, coming from behind in the 3-2 cracker. Ola Kamara gave Crew a lead in the 42nd minute but Kansas City equalized after the break through Benny Feilhaber. Feilhaber scored a penalty after Tyson Wahl was sent off for his tackle on Dom Dwyer.
Kansas led when Graham Zusi scored from the edge of the box in the 56th minute but Kamara scored another to draw level. Matt Besler won the game in injury time for the hosts with his header. The win means they have moved closer to the spot for Western Conference play offs.

The Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders game ended in a 1-1 draw even though Jordan Hamilton scored first as Sounders equalized almost immediately.
