Former Barcelona striker David Villa says that he is confident that his former team can win the treble this campaign.

The striker left the Spanish club on a free transfer after his contract came to an end. Villa knew that he did not have a future left at Barcelona after falling down the pecking order. His importance was further reduced after the club decided to sign Luis Suarez from Barcelona even before the World Cup 2014 began. Suarez moved to the Camp Nou just after the World Cup had completed. Villa will now be playing in the MLS for New York City FC.

The Spaniard is one of the several high-profile names to have joined clubs in the MLS this summer. Frank Lampard, Kaka, and Steven Gerrard are some of the other top players who will be eyeing for a top spot in the North American league. Despite moving to the MLS and having scored four goals in the opening five matches, Villa is still keeping tabs on his former club Barcelona. The Catalans managed to reach the Champions League semi-finals after a convincing 5-1 win over PSG. Further, they will take on Athletic Club in the final of the Copa del Rey while also leading the la Liga table by two points over Real Madrid.

“Barcelona are capable of winning the treble. They’re leading in Spain, they’re through to the Champions League semi-finals and are in the cup final. They have a great chance of doing so, but there’s a long way to go yet. I hope they enjoy great success; it would make me really happy. The only way to do things is winning. Barca are winning and achieving things, even if they have changed their style, but for me they haven’t. They play well, score goals, and concede very few,” said Villa.
