New York City FC’s star striker David Villa says that his team are very much looking forward to receiving Frank Lampard into the squad.

The midfielder is now available to join up with his new club after leaving Manchester City after the end of a disappointing Premier League campaign. After having won numerous league titles with Chelsea, Lampard failed to add a final one at City. The club finished second to the blues with an eight-point deficit separating them. The newly from MLS franchise are bottom of the Western Conference table after having taken only two wins from the opening 14 games.

After having sealed a free transfer from Atletico Madrid, Villa has been yet to fire on all cylinders. He has scored only three goals from the opening 11 matches. His record has to improve immensely if New York City are going to start climbing up the table. Villa, though, believes that the team are only a couple of good results away from going on a run. At this moment, they seem to be lacking the confidence that is required to play at the top level. The Spaniard says that the addition of Lampard will certainly bring a lot of quality in the centre of the park – an area where New York City are struggling.

“I think any team would be delighted to have Frank Lampard on their team.A few additions will be very helpful.Not only Frank Lampard, but new players that will probably come in the summer transfer window.I think we are very much looking forward to Frank Lampard coming as soon as possible. He will be here very soon, but he won’t be able to play until July 1. We just have to keep fighting. After 11 winless games we need to improve in all areas,” said Villa.
