VILLA HELPS ATLETICO

Atletico Madrid striker David Villa helped his team beat his former club Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals. The striker joined the Spanish outfit in the summer for around £ 4 million after being deemed surplus at Barcelona.

However, he has proven that this was a very wrong decision by the Catalan club, as he has been influential for Atletico Madrid and their title challenge. They have been able to maintain their position at the top of the table for a long time now. They have also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League – at the expense of Barcelona.

Following a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou, the team managed by David Simeone got a 1-0 win at the Vicente Calderon in the second leg to go through 2-1 on aggregate. Villa did not complete the full 90 minutes, as he was substituted with a few minutes to go.

However, he was elated after the final whistle since he played a crucial role in the win. Villa could have scored a couple of times after he was terribly unlucky to hit the woodwork in the second leg. He was also delayed clear-cut penalty by the referee. Despite this, Villa was just happy to see his team in the semi-finals and now he is hoping for an appearance the final.

“The dream is to be in the final, we’ll get whoever we get in the semi-finals. This team will keep going with passion, humility, sacrifice and hard work. Atletico fans are very happy to have reached the last four, as are Madrid fans. For a city to have two teams in the semi-finals is something very beautiful,” said Villa, who knows that his team could face the favourites like Real Madrid for Bayern Munich in the semi-finals. Chelsea are the other team in the draw.
