VILLA REVEALS VALDES’ TRIBUTE AFTER ZAMORA AWARD

Former Barcelona striker David Villa has thanked his former teammate Victor Valdes as the goalkeeper retires from the game. The Major League Soccer star also revealed the present the keeper received when he won the Zamora award in 2011. The Spaniard was awarded the best goals conceded per game ration for his performance in the 2010/11 La Liga season. Valdes felt it was more of a team effort so he shared the honour with the rest of the team. Valdes then presented each player in the team with a plaque.

DAVID VILLA DROPPED FROM SPAIN SQUAD

Spain has dropped MLS soccer star David Villa from its latest list for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Israel. Coach Julen Lopetugui called on the player in the last international window, with Villa featuring against Italy. Villa played in the 3-0 win despite being out of the team for three years. He was injured when Spain played Lichtenstein in the next game though. Lopetugui opted to leave him out altogether this time.
